Earning Your AAS

City Colleges of Chicago offers students the opportunity to earn their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Electrical Construction Technology. The Richard J. Daley college founded this program with the assistance of the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust (EJATT). The Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust (EJATT) is made up of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

These organizations work together to provide next-level education and training to aspiring electricians. They work with apprentices to prepare them to provide residential and commercial electrical services to customers in the Chicagoland area. 

Program Requirements

The City Colleges of Chicago Electrician Program prepares students to perform intricate electrical work. Along with some general education coursework, students also complete classes like:

  • Conduit Bending I & II
  • Electrical Circuitry
  • Construction Technology
  • Print Reading I & II
  • Motor Control Systems
  • HVAC Systems
  • Programmable COntrol
  • Technical Math I & II
  • Photovoltaic Systems

Additional Certificates

If students aren’t interested in a traditional college degree, they can also pursue certificates from the City Colleges of Chicago. The Basic Certificate prepares them to become apprentices under the guidance of a union electrical contractor. They will be able to wire systems and maintain electrical equipment in industrial, commercial, and residential settings. Students can also pursue an Advanced Certificate with more rigorous program requirements like more challenging courses.
